As of April 24, 2026, factory zoomer /life is pleased to present an exhibition by Korean photographer Koo Bohnchang.
Having studied photography in Germany, Koo Bohnchang has held numerous solo exhibitions at museums and galleries around the world. In Japan, his works include "Everyday Treasures" (2007), a series capturing worn bars of soap shaped by daily use, and "White Porcelain: Vessels", featuring Korean white porcelain, both published by Rat Hole Gallery.
Working around the theme of the passage of time, his photographs quietly evoke the presence and memories of their former owners, as if gently speaking to the viewer. This exhibition will feature works focusing on empty containers, such as boxes. We hope you will sense the traces and lingering presence of what once occupied these spaces through his work.
At factory zoomer /online shop, we are accepting pre-orders for Koo Bohnchang’s new publication "Kushu" (standard edition), which brings together works from this exhibition (limited to 250 copies). This book is a boxed set that includes 16 panels
The book is scheduled to be completed in early June, with shipping expected to begin in mid-June.

この本は、空っぽの箱、を写した連作です。これまでどこにも出さず、未発表のまま、長いあいだ秘められてきました。箱の中に入っていたものは跡形もなく、残されているのは、わずかなシミやホコリだけ。どれもどこにでもありそうな、なんでもない空箱です。撮影の過程で、クーさんの胸中には、こんな言葉が去来していたそうです。
空手来空手去
くうしゅらいくうしゅきょ
呪文みたいですが、「何も持たずにやってきて、何も持たずに去る」という禅語です。クーさんの写真観や人生観が、にじみ出ています。いや、単ににじみ出ているというより、この空箱シリーズには、クーさんが追い求めてきた「時間の痕跡」がもっとも純度高くあらわれています。
ものを撮りながら、ものには囚われたくない。もはや、ものそのものは重要ではないのかもしれない。それでも痕跡を写すために、ボディがいる。これまで撮ってきたものの中には、李朝の白磁や坂田さんの古道具のように、ボディにすでに価値が宿っているものもあったけど、使いかけの石鹸には、美術的価値などなかった。それが心地よかった。そんな石鹸の延長線上で、クーさんも人生のたそがれ時に差しかかりながら辿りついたのが、この空箱のシリーズなのです。そう思わずには、いられません。
